Those of you that have been watching me for a long time may remember way back when, when I did Ronin's famous The Thinker in manga style. I said I was going to do a whole series of famous art in manga (FAIM). Well, I finally got around to doing piece number two. This is my manga rendition of the Mona Lisa. Hope you like.
I'm not happy with the eyes. I had no idea how to make the eyes look as cynical and despondent as the real Mona Lisa and still be in manga style. Any tips on how I could improve on my expressions in manga would be really appreciated. I have no idea which famous artwork I should do next in the series. So I'm open to suggestions. Maybe Whistler's Mother? Anybody have any famous artwork you would like me to attempt? |

Maybe if you placed the eyes a bit lower on the face it would satisfy you...since the eyes are place half-way down the face anyways.
Man, I love this. Auto fav in my book

I think you're right that the eyes need to be moved down a tad, or the forehead up a tad or something, but that wasn't what was bothering me. I just would have preferred to better capture the expression of the original as that is what really made it famous to begin with I think. Unfortunately, I didn't know how to do that and still make it distinctly manga.
I'm glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the fav. I tried something different with the shading on this one. After the main colours were blocked in all the shading was done using airbrushing. I just had to airbrush the background and then I figured I might as well go all the way. I
So, any idea what I should do next? I'm thinking one of Picasso's funky cubist people might be a lark...

To answer your question about the eyes- I don't believe it is the eyes at all so much as the chin
I really don't know what you should do next though... I'm out of ideas.
Any suggestions on a nice drawing pad that won't break my poor wallet? I may get myself one sometime - or beg for it for a birthday coming up
You're totally awesome Cindy
